BVS - dynamic Tape and Cartridge Management System
BVS is a dynamic tape management system for the IBM operating systems VSE and VM. It administrates all tape and cartridge processing and offers the following advantages:

• tape and cartridge files are administrated securely and comfortably without the need for any pre-definitions
  
  
• extensive multi-file and multi-volume support
  
  
• BVS manages a central catalog which can be accessed by any number of VM/CMS and VSE processors simultaneously
  
  
• BVS supports all robot systems currently available on the market. It ensures an equal arbitration of units and cartridges. Up to 4 differentrobot systems can be handled simultaneously.
  
  
• dynamic assignment of tape and cartridge units only between open and close
  
  
• automatic ATTACH and DETACH of units
  
  
• tape/disk independence by simple exchange of TLBL statements by DLBL statement
  
  
• copy program for fast and simple copy of tape data sets also for multi-files with only one TLBL statement
  
  
• vault and slot administration (automatic assignment of unique numbers for each cartridge
  
  
• Online display and update of the central BVS catalog with identical functions in CICS and CMS
